1R01CA190329 (Wetter) Kumar (Co-I) 7/1/15 – 6/30/20 National Institutes of Health, NCI Socioeconomic Status, Stress, and Smoking Cessation The goal of this project is to examine the influence of SES and social history, contextual and environmental influences, biobehavioral/psychosocial predispositions, and acute momentary precipitants on stress, smoking lapse, and abstinence among smokers attempting to quit.

1U54EB020404 Kumar (PI) 9/29/14 – 9/30/19 National Institutes of Health – BD2K Initiative Center of Excellence for Mobile Sensor Data-to-Knowledge (MD2K) This project is developing novel big data solutions to reliably quantify physical, biological, behavioral, social and environmental factors that contribute to health and disease risk in the context of two complex health conditions with high mortality risk – reducing hospital readmission in congestive heart failure (CHF) patients and preventing relapse in abstinent smokers, both via sensor-triggered mHealth interventions.

CNS-1823221 Kumar (PI) 10/1/18 – 9/30/21 National Science Foundation CRI: CI-EN” Collaborative Research: mResearch: A platform for reproducible and extensible mobile sensor big data research The goal of the proposed mResearch project is to make necessary enhancements to the MD2K infrastructure so it becomes a true community resource that computing researchers from across the country and around the world can easily use to conduct reproducible and extensible research on any aspect of the collection and analysis of high-frequency mobile sensor data.

1R01CA224537-01 (Wetter) Kumar (Co-I) 1/19/18 – 12/31/22 National Institutes of Health Affective Science and Smoking Cessation: Real Time World Assessment The goals of this project are the analysis of the physiological sensor data and self-report data collected in the study, and the deployment of ongoing conceptual and technological advances using continuous measure of stress obtained from AutoSense to examine and relate critical components of stress response measures to behavioral risk factors representing common adherence challenges such as smoking cessation and dietary modification in diverse populations.

1U01CA229437-01 (Nahum-Shani) Kumar (Co-I) 9/1/18 – 8/31/22 National Institutes of Health Novel use of mHealth Data to Identify states of vulnerability and receptivity to JITAIs The goal of this project is to apply innovative computational approaches to one of the most extensive and racially/ethnically diverse collection of real time, real world data on health behavior change (smoking cessation) to inform the development of theory-driven behavioral interventions.
